Description
The Estrogen receptor (ER) is a mouse monoclonal antibody directed against human estrogen receptor protein. ER is a 66 kDa protein that mediates the actions of estrogen in estrogen-responsive tissues. Estrogen receptors (ER) are members of the steroid/thyroid hormone receptor superfamily of ligand-activated transcription factors. It contains highly conserved DNA binding and ligand binding domains (ERα and ERβ which are estrogen independent & dependent activation domains i.e., AF1 & AF2 respectively. They are critically involved in regulating the normal function of reproductive tissues). ERα regulates transcription by recruiting coactivator proteins and interacting with general transcriptional machinery. ERα and ERβ have been shown to be differentially activated by various ligands. Receptor-ligand interactions trigger a cascade of events, including dissociation from heat shock proteins, receptor dimerization, and phosphorylation and the association of the hormone activated receptor with specific regulatory elements in target genes.
