Description

The P63 is a tumor suppressor gene which belongs to P53 family. It shares homology with P53 & P73.P63 has growth inhibiting & apoptosis function. It is detected in the epithelial layer of prostatecervix & urothelium.It is one of the useful marker in differentiating benign & malignant tumours in Prostae tissue, it is expressed in normal tissue rather than the tumor tissue. Also used as a sensitive marker in lung & breast carcinomas.P63 gene encodes multiple isotypes such as p63 α, p63β; p63ϒ & Δp63, all of these isoforms have trans activation domains which induce apoptosis directly except the last one which need the transcriptional products of P53 to activate. This is because it lacks N-terminal amino acid sequence.
